Seven Daft Things Not To Do To Your Website

1. Splash pages

Most of the time splash pages are uncalled for. There are only a handful of reasons why you may ever need to use a splash page on your website but these reasons don’t seem to apply to most of the splash pages you can see on the Internet. The worst example of a splash page is when a company creates a page and adds their logo with no content. They may also add a ‘click here to enter’ button link when there is no reason to have not entered already.

Creating Quality Websites

Websites, there are literally billions of them out there in cyber-space. How many of them do you go to and just think this is boring, bland, or hard to use? It seems like too many to mention. So what makes a good website? I reckon it’s about interaction. You’ve got to make the visitor interested. You’ve got to grab their attention. Many sites use plenty of bright and shiny gimmicks to attract you, but once you make it through to the content of the site it’s just not worthy. A good site uses easy navigation, relevant content, and interactive media like comments and message boards. If you’re fortunate, whoever builds your site may even have a few tricks up their sleeves to make it really fun with sound, video, and other interactive fun stuff.

Five Essential Questions to Answer Before Creating Your First (or second…or third) Website

Right after the thought, “I need a website,” people usually say, “I need a web designer!” Actually, before even whispering “web design,” you need to answer these five questions in as much detail as possible. Once you’re clear on your strategy, you can provide better information to your web designer. And most likely you’ll be pleased with your new home on the web.

1. What is the purpose of your website?

When you’re well-known through face-to-face contacts, your website will serve as an additional source of information to potential customers. You may need only a basic “calling card” site: a list of contact information, coming appearances and basic brochure copy.

The Growth of ru-Domains

The registry of ru-domains reports, that the number of domain names registered in Russia’s national domain, the ru-domains, has increased 19.82% in the first half of 2004 to 256.356 ru-domains.

Ru-Center compares this to the growth of 2003, which was 16.02% for the first half of 2003.

The increase among ru-domains in Russia is coincident with the rising numbers of Russian Internet users. Ru-Center explains, that the weekly users numbered 5.9 million June 2004 , 1.4 million more than one year earlier. The number of Russian Internet users is expanding 30% a year.
